REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A NEW PASSPORT
UNDER DUAL NATIONALITY ARRANGEMENT

                 Swedish nationals of Pakistan origin can have dual nationality. In addition to Swedish passports, they can now also keep their Pakistani passports. Pakistani nationals who have recently got their Swedish nationalities are advised to immediately approach the Embassy and get registered as Dual Nationals, if they want to keep their Pakistani nationalities.

            In order to apply for a Pakistani passport of five-years validity, applicants must  submit the following documents:

  1. Form B (fully completed);
  2. Original Swedish Passport (along with photocopy of its first 2 pages);
  3. Two Pakistani Identities:  a) An expired Pakistani passport (along with photocopy of its first three pages and the Swedish visa-bearing pages- 2 sets) and b) Computerised or old National Identity Card (CNIC or NIC-along with its photocopy - 2 sets). Presentation of both the original National Identity Card and the original, expired Pakistani passport is recommended for smooth processing of the application. However at least one of these documents must be submitted in original.
  4. Four (4) passport size photographs which should not be older than 6 months.

Successful applicants, already having their CNIC from Pakistan, will be issued new passports with 5 years validity. In the absence of the CNIC, a 1-year validity passport will be issued that will be extended without any additional fee as soon as a new National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) is obtained by the applicant. For detailed information concerning the NICOP, visit the relevant page of the consular section.

Registration as Dual National

Those individuals who already hold valid Swedish and Pakistani passports and have not been registered as Dual Nationals with the Embassy, must complete their registration at the earliest to avoid any future complications. After registration, the individual would be able to use his existing Pakistani passport, as a dual national. Each applicant must submit the following for registration as a Dual National:

1.     Form C (duly completed)
2.     One recent Photograph.
3.     Both Swedish and Pakistani passports (along-with a photocopy of the relevant pages of each)
4.     Original Pakistani National Identity Card (along-with a photocopy)
5.     Registration fee of SEK 150.
6.     The following procedure/rules and regulations (e.g. interview at the Embassy) etc remain the same for these  applicants, as is true in case of applicants of new passports.

Important Notice

        Holders of Dual Nationality are advised to immediately apply for their NICOP, without which their registration process in Pakistan would remain incomplete. NICOP is also necessary for future extension of the new Dual Nationality Passports issued to them.

        All applicants of Dual Nationality should therefore ensure that they apply for a NICOP soon after getting their new Pakistani passports.

        New machine-readable passports have been introduced in Pakistan. However the old passports will remain valid for sometime. Please also note that the Embassy is still issuing passports according to the old system. Any change in this regard will be notified in due course.

PLEASE NOTE:

  •  If all the above mentioned requirements are completed, each applicant for dual nationality will be required to personally appear for an interview at the Embassy. In this connection, the applicant should indicate two sets of convenient dates for the interview in the application form. The Embassy will confirm the interview date, subsequently.
  • In cases where the necessary requirements have not been completed, as particularly mentioned in para 3 above, clearance needs to be obtained from the concerned authorities in Pakistan. A one-year validity passport will be issued to these applicants. The passport will be extended to full validity of five years once confirmation of the national status as 'Pakistani' has been received from the concerned authorities.
  • Those applicants who wish to obtain copies of their previous Pakistani passport may contact the Migrationsverket (Medborgareskap Arkivet - Telephone: 011-156356, 011-156395), which maintains record of all previous passports that were surrendered at the time of obtaining Swedish citizenship.

 Children

  • For issuance of passports to children under 18 years of age, the Embassy would require the Person Bevis of each child, which should clearly indicate the names of both the parents. If the Person Bevis has been submitted, there is no requirement for interview of the child.
  • The same procedure is applicable for children over 18 years of age, provided they are unmarried and are still dependent on the parents, whose names are mentioned in the Person Bevis.
  • However married or independent children have to appear for an interview, as in the routine cases.
